March Workshops Lead to June Performances

Granite Playwrights, Ink, a group of award-winning novelists, playwrights, screenwriters and actors living in the Greater Concord, New Hampshire area, premieres new short plays in the Friends of the Concord City Auditorium's annual Page to Stage Series.  The two-hour presentation offers short and wicked short plays in a workshop format on March 6 & 27 from 3-5 p.m. at the Audi in Concord, NH. Admission is free.

This two-part series showcasing the group’s work will be followed up with performances at Boston Playwrights' Theatre, 949 Commonwealth Avenue, on the BU Campus, on the weekend of June 24-26.

Audi audiences will be the first to see these plays in an intimate setting. The early March date will feature many raw plays being read and workshopped, while the later March date should see plays read in a more rehearsed scripts-in-hand performance, though some of the actors may be "off book" by then, in which case audiences will get to experience premiere performances of brand new works.

Part of the fun of a workshop event is that playwrights welcome audience feedback and questions; it's an opportunity to glimpse the creative process in action.  Actors interested in auditioning for the plays are welcome to join us on the 6th at Noon when we will be reading through the plays and assigning some of the still unassigned roles. Please contact us if you'd like to be considered for a role in the reading, and trying out for a spot in the March 27 and June performances.

Plan to join Granite Playwrights, Ink, to see these plays:
  • THE THIN PLACE by George Kelly - Waiting for the Westbound Bus two men discover they share a commonality: personal crisis. Will they work their problems out? (need two male actors: one middle aged, one older)
  • THIMBLE MAJOR by Alan Lindsay - Can you rename the constellations with as much aplomb as this spurned lover? (need four actors: two men, two women, 30's)
  • BARTAILED GODWIT by Jane Hunt - Three old birds flock together for warmth and companionship, but is it really such a good survival strategy? (need three actors: women of a retirement age)
  • I KNOW YOU by Merle Drown - Who could we ever possibly know in a flash? (NOTE: Still awaiting confirmation of this play for the March 6 reading; may need two actors: one male, one female, uncertain age)
  • THE TOUPEE by Tom Dunn - A widow and a prostitute meet and discuss one man, one toupee, his final time making love, and what we leave behind. (two women in the prime of their lives) read March 6
  • GOOD-BYE SNOWBALL by Tom Dunn - A woman visits a veterinarian intending to get a prescription written (one man any age, one older woman) read March 27
  • WOMAN AS CATHEDRAL OF SIN OR SANCTUM by Dana Biscotti Myskowski - To agree or disagree isn't the question; they clearly don't. But can they at least play nice? (need two actors, possibly a third for a single line [or could be read as an off stage voice], one male, one female, 30s) read March 6
  • TOM'S SCHOOL OF ASPIE SPEED DATING by Dana Biscotti Myskowski What happens when five young adults with Asperger's Syndrome attend a social mixer...especially when it's organized by a neurotypical adult who really doesn't get Aspies? (need three men, three women, early 20s except for one man who may be a tad bit older) performed March 27 & in June
  • NO, BUT I READ THE BOOK by Merle Drown - Brief intercessions designed to entertain...and to distract the audience from the necessary scenic changes on the open stage. (need two to three actors of any sex and any age) performed March 27 & in June

Am working on my short one-act play now! Next task: reading through Merle's work. Always save the best for last.... Or in this case, it's savor. :)
